December 2020 Newsletter

December 21, 2020

Dear Etobicoke-Lakeshore CPC Members and Friends,

Despite COVID, there is much progress to anticipate as we advance the Conservative movement in the new year!

National Convention – March 18-20, 2021

Our big focus now is preparing for the virtual National Convention next March.  We are taking a lead role in proposing updates for the CPC policy declaration and constitution in a nationwide grassroots-led project conducted on ideas-lab.  We are bringing a strong GTA perspective to the modernization of our party’s policies and we are actively recruiting support from other EDAs across Canada.

You will be able to apply in the new year to be one of our 10 voting delegates in the most accessible convention ever, with a substantially reduced fee.  If more than 10 Etobicoke-Lakeshore CPC members apply to be delegates, the party will hold an online delegate selection process in late January.  One of our 10 delegate spots is available for a youth delegate up to 25 years old.

Candidate Nomination

Our candidate nomination process is underway.  Once party headquarters closes our riding to applications from potential candidates, we will conduct a (virtual) nomination meeting at which you can vote to choose our candidate for the next election.

Fundraising – We Need Your Help!

With a federal election coming soon, we need to build up our campaign war chest!   Canada’s political donation tax credits are extremely generous and you can benefit this tax year by donating before year-end.  For a donation to our EDA up to $400, you get a 75% tax credit.  If you donate $400, you receive a $300 tax credit, a net cost to you of only $100.  We’ll mail your tax receipt in early 2021.

Some of you have already donated to our national CPC headquarters, or to our leadership contestants last spring/summer.  But our local EDA is separate – we rely on donations from our Etobicoke-Lakeshore supporters to finance the upcoming election campaign of our candidate.

To donate to our EDA, please click here:  Or send a cheque payable to: Etobicoke-Lakeshore Conservative Association, 2969 Bloor St. W., PO Box 964, Etobicoke ON M8X 1B3.

Political Plug-In Event with Michael Barrett

Michael Barrett, Conservative MP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes (and Shadow Minister for Ethics) joined us virtually on November 24, 2020. Michael brought us his frontline insights from the ethics committee holding the Liberal government to account on the WE scandal and other matters.

Michael also provided background context to the ethics commissioner’s rebuke of our incumbent Liberal MP James Maloney for failure to timely comply with the conflict of interest disclosure obligation.  Maloney is required to make an extraordinary apology to Parliament in the new year.

We’re hoping to host our next political plug-in event after the National Convention.

Thank you for your continued support of our EDA. We wish you and your families a happy and safe holiday season!
